The water treatment process includes pre-oxidation with potassium permanganate for control of manganese from the surface water sources - aid in control of compounds associated with objectionable taste and odor - and to aid in removal of organic precursors that contribute to formation of disinfection by-products, powdered activated carbon and granular activated carbon filter media to aid in removal of Synthetic Organic Chemicals (including atrazine) - and to enhance overall water quality. Provisions are included to easily incorporate ozonation and/or UV radiation disinfection if required in the future.
Voted as the 2009 Water Treatment Plant of the Year By the Illinois Rural Water Association.
